Today I'm talkin' bout Monat!

Ok, so many of you know that my first MLM business was with SeneGence (LipSense) and what a disaster THAT turned out to be. When I realized after three months that it wasn't what I was looking for, I moved on to Maskcara Beauty, which is going pretty well, thanks for asking!  I am really loving the company and what they stand for. So far anyway. BUT....they are relatively new, so all I can do is hope and pray that they hang on to the integrity and stellar customer service they've exhibited thus far. You better believe if things go south, I'll be the first to blast my horn.

Because I am enjoying riding the Maskcara Beauty train and making a little extra money doing so, and since I already own and operate two other businesses that are NOT direct sales/MLM's, I have been researching additional opportunities for another new income stream. I want at least 7 streams of income to put me well on my path towards financial freedom. So, a few weeks ago I decided to look at Monet. I hadn't seen any other direct sales hair care companies out there, and this one kept popping up in my newsfeed. I'd also really wanted to find a product that truly strengthened and improved my hair, so I really wanted to love them. If you haven't heard of them, Monat is a hair care system that claims to "revolutionize" hair repair. I've spent a few weeks chatting with a very nice and very professional Market Partner for the company (that is what they call their independent consultants). She was not pushy and was forthcoming in answering all of my questions. She did expertly nudge me with a bit of false urgency on occasion, telling me "This is the last day of this promotional deal for new Partners" and such. But overall, she was not overbearing.

Here is an example of one of their systems. The price is $99 (USD) and I can only assume that is so Market Partners can convince people to pay the $19.99 fee to have free shipping and a 15% discount, to purchase the system for $84. This particular one is the "Volume System".

Seems a bit pricey! But I'd pay for this if it did what it claims to do! I stealthily joined some Monat groups and did some reading. What I found were a LOT of customers complaining about losing hair, hair-breakage, and tangles. I saw a lot of Market Partners call this "detox" and that they need to use the product for a full 30 days to see results.  After researching this a bit further and speaking with a Market Partner that I know for several years, and trust, I learned that you can indeed have breakage and hair loss if you are using the wrong product or using the products incorrectly. That is why it is so important to find an MP that has the product knowledge down pat. They should be able to discuss your hair issues and recommend products and usage!

To even become a Market Partner requires an investment. There is a basic starter kit for around $100, but you can add on a package of product and samples with that so you
have them for potential customers as well as yourself.

Once you add on product packs, things can add up quickly so be careful.
You could end up putting forth over $700 to get started.

This review from an independent customer who tried the products for a full 5 months really got me. She experienced hair loss, breakage, and in general did not like the products. She was told by her Market Partner to continue using them, and was recommended to try other products in the line. She had a heck of a time trying to cancel her VIP and was told after being on hold with their customer service for 40 minutes, that since she didn't make her 3 purchases, she'd have to pay a $52 fee to cancel. UMM WHAT?? The products didn't work for her, in face they made her hair worse, and she gave it a real try with them. If you want to watch her review you can do so here . I found it very informative and honest. She does come back later to say she was let out of her VIP by the company! I do wonder, why someone would continue with a product they don't like for 5 months. A month or two, ok, but 5? I don't recommend doing that....if something isn't working after 2 months, give them no more of your money!!

If you'd like to follow me as I check out other MLM's, or if you are interested in learning more about Maskcara Beauty, you can join my Smart Girl Bosses group on Facebook.  And if you happen to be a representative for an awesome MLM (and by awesome I mean one where you don't have to carry stock or handle returns, can make good money from sales alone, don't have to invest a ton of your own money or lie about products, and don't have to recruit recruit recruit,  I'd love to hear all about it!
